For years, men and women have been unhappy with fatty deposits located under their chin and neck area, often referred to as a “double chin.” These fatty deposits, or submental fullness, cause some patients to feel less attractive and confident, but they aren’t ready for an invasive surgical procedure to correct it.

Kybella® treatments are performed by our medical providers for patients in our area to treat these localized fat deposits. Kybella is a non-surgical, safe approach to localized fat reduction that provides a more pleasing, confident, appearance.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is the first FDA approved non-surgical injectable that reduces the excess fat accumulation under the chin and neck area. It’s a minimally invasive, safe, effective non-surgical treatment that provides long lasting results with minimal side effects.

Who are the best candidates for Kybella?

The best candidates for Kybella are those with excess fat under the chin and neck – often giving the appearance of a ‘double chin’ – who have good skin and muscle tone, and require minimum tissue tightening in the area to be treated.

How is the Kybella procedure performed?

The procedure involves the use a very tiny needle (about the size of an eyelash) to make multiple injections of the Kybella® solution directly into the fat in the targeted area. There may be mild discomfort at the time of treatment.  For the subsequent few hours there can be tenderness and discomfort but it usually disappears after a few hours.  There is no downtime and no bandaging is required.  All activities may be resumed immediately after treatment.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is an injectable solution that includes a naturally occurring molecule called deoxycholic acid.  This molecule is present in the body and aids the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.  When injected into fat, it destroys the fat cells and dissolves the fat within it.  The fat is then digested and removed by the body.  Once destroyed, these fat cells to not regenerate.

How does Kybella compare to Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fat is suctioned out of your body. It is usually accomplished in 1 session.  After treatment, bandages are worn. With Kybella, the fat is dissolved non-surgically, usually during 2 – 4 sessions.  There is no bandaging required and all activities may be resumed immediately.  Treatments are administered at intervals of 6 weeks.

How long will Kybella fat reduction last?

Once fat cells are removed, they do not regenerate so the results are permanent.

Is Kybella safe?

Yes, Kybella is a safe and FDA approved, specifically to reduce fat under the chin.

What about side effects with Kybella?

Shortly after treatment is administered, there will be redness and swelling of the area.  In addition, there may be some tenderness.  Usually, these changes resolve within 2 weeks after treatment.

How soon will I see results with Kybella?

Reduction in submental fat may be apparent, in some, a few weeks after the first treatment. The reduction in fat continues during the subsequent weeks.  After 6 weeks, a second treatment may be administered in those who require more than one treatment.
